Renee Zellweger

Poor Renee Zellweger, she is getting a load of stick following her appearance at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards on Monday night, looking not quite like how we remember her.  Most of the bitchy comments seem to be based on the fact that she has tried a bit too hard to maintain a youthful appearance. Of course, if she was looking a bit ropey, or showing her age, the press would have a field day.

Has she had any work done?  I neither know nor care, but I must admit that she did not look like how she used too.  Perhaps it is her chubb- cheeked Bridget Jones look which is forever etched in our collective memory - but that is out of date by about 15 years or so (10 years since Edge of Reason).  Even then, it was not how she looked after filming, when she managed to shed the extra weight she had gained for the movie.

100 out of 100 in FHM's 1998 Sexiest Women in the World list
I reckon she just has one of these faces that are more difficult than others for our brains to categorise; where sometimes, subtle changes can render a person almost unrecognisable.

Look at the picture above which appeared in FHM in 1998 - she looks nowt like Renee Zellweger.

The brain is lazy, while it has a huge capacity to detect the smallest of differences, it focuses on the most prominent features for facial recognition.
